Bee Well in Winter

Winter seems to come around quicker each year, and with it the inevitable cold and flu season!

Beetanicals Bee Well Balm, Baby Bee Well Balm and Australian Manuka Honey have brought relief to many with cold weather-related complaints, so let’s look at some of the ways our honey and 100% natural beeswax balms can help your family stay well and happy during the winter months.

Manuka Honey for Coughs and Colds

Manuka honey can be a great natural remedy for coughs and colds in children over 12 months old. The Royal Children's Hospital even describes honey in their fact sheet as a better treatment than often ineffective pharmaceutical cough medicines. In a study where young children were given a single dose of honey to treat their cough, average severity scores halved from 4.09 to 1.93/10.Beetanicals Manuka honey has both antibacterial and immune-boosting properties, meaning it not only soothes the symptoms of coughs and colds but helps to fight the bugs off too! It is wonderful enjoyed as a teaspoon on its own, stirred into lemon and ginger tea, or how about trying our healthy honey hot chocolate recipe below? Yummy!

Healthy Honey Hot Chocolate Recipe

Healthy Hot Chocolate for Winter

We know that during the winter months, it’s tempting to reach for comfort foods. Instead of sugary, processed hot chocolate, how about this healthier alternative? All you need is:

  • One teaspoon of organic cacao powder
  • ½ - 1 teaspoon of our Manuka honey
  • A splash of the milk of your choice, dairy or plant-based
  • A pinch of cinnamon

Boil water and pour it over the cacao powder and honey, before adding in the milk and sprinkling cinnamon on top. It’s more than guilt-free: cacao has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, stronger than the (in)famous red wine!

Breathe Easy with Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus globulus is one of our Australian natives and a key ingredient in Beetanicals Bee Well Balm. It has been used for years to open up our airways, but did you know that it can have antiviral abilities? A study on eucalyptus oil vapour found that it was effective against the Influenza - a virus that typically makes its unwelcome appearance in winter. Longer exposure times led to stronger effects. RubbingBeetanicals Bee Well Balminto your chest or wrists means you get to receive its aromatherapy benefits all day or night. Ahhh bliss…

Sleep Well with Rosalina

Rosalina is a key ingredient in Baby Bee Well Balm because of its benefits for sleep and decongestion. Its essential oil is rich in both eucalyptol and linalool. Research on lavender oil, which is predominately linalool too, shows that it is able to significantly reduce levels of anxiety and stress hormones which interrupt sleep. ApplyingBaby Bee Well Balmbefore bed time can help the whole house get a good night’s sleep!

Soothe dry skin with Beeswax & Botanicals

Dry skin conditions are often worse in the winter months because of cold, dry air; heating systems and lower vitamin D production from spending less time outside in the sunlight. People with skin conditions often have lower average levels of antioxidants, which may be boosted through the variety of anti-oxidant rich botanical extracts contained inBeetanicals Bee Soothed Balm, including Kakadu plum - the richest source of vitamin C in the world.

The beeswax contained inBeetanicals Bee Soothed Balmhas soothing and water-trapping properties that help prevent the skin barrier from becoming dry and weakened.
